This is a beautiful morning. We had two drills in the (for now???). Pretty near all of us received letters from home. At 7 p.m. we received orders to pack up and leave for San Francisco and from there to join Admiral [George] Dewey at Manilla. All the boys are overcome with joy and in forty minutes we had packed everything on the train and are ready at 9:40 p.m. to leave Mt. Gretna. All remaining soldiers gave us a good send off.
