verry good Sermon also gave us a short History of the Colonels life the Services lasted 2 Hours we had special Musick for this solem Ocasion allthough no Tears where shed we all feel that we have lost our best Officer and Comander in the Regiment and we all feel sorry for the Wife and all thoose who are so dear to him Colonel Hawkins was born in Washington Co 1843 gratuated at Waynesburg 1860 during this year he enlisted as a private in the 4th Calvary and befor the End of the Civil War wich lasted 4 years he was a Captain then he went into the National Guard where he was a Captain of H Co of the 10 Pa Regt this he held until 1876 when he was elected Colonel of the Regiment he held all during the Hispano War and the Filipinios Outbreak until on the Regt Return he died quietly in his Stateroom on the Senator at 1140 pm on July 18/1899 May he rest in peace
